The construction of a new lift, which is part of the Super Borovets Project, to begin this October

The summer season 2007 is not completed yet, but investors and developers have already started the arrangements for the following winter season 2008. Construction of the first gondola lift above the town of Samokov will begin in October 2007. The facility’s construction is part of the Super Borovets Project, which is expected to invest about 350 mln euros in the ski resort over the next 3 years. The Super Borovets Project envisages the construction of 100 km of ski runs and will add 25,000 beds to the resort's accommodation capacity. A new ski run will be constructed right after the gondola lift is completed.The capacity of the new facility will be 2500 people per hour and its speed will be about 6 metres per second. Borovets’s new lift will reach the Markudjitsi ski runs and its route will be 9.2km long. The president of Glavbulgarstoy, which is the main investor of Super Borovets Project, announced that the French “Poma” and the Austrian “Doppelmayer” are the possible companies which will provide the facilities for the new ski lift. The groundbreaking for the lift is scheduled for the 8th of October, 2007.
