Sofia’s Vladayska river to become a recreation area

Sofia municipality will elaborate a complex project, foreseeing the river bank transformation of the local Vladayska into a recreation area. The decision was made during a round-table talk on Sofia’s green system, initiated by the city council. The ambitious project includes the removal of the sediment from the river bottom, the additional stabilization of the river bank, the revival of the existing park area, as well as the construction of a balneological complex, alleys, bicycle alleys, parking areas and several playgrounds. The alleys will be equipped with vertical wayside signal systems, horizontal road traffic signs, restricting edge lane markings and special coverings for the bike alleys on the sidewalks. The first stage of the project enfolds the improvement of the area between the Alexandrovsky Bridge and Jitnitza sreet, which will be followed by the respective improvement of the river bank located in the central parts of the city. The areas earmarked planting, are grouped by functionality. Some 60 decares will be drained out, strengthened, and planted with several vegetable cultures reinforcing the soil.The global design of the area will include drinking pavilions and colonnades. A mineral water fountain will be built in the garden near by the guardhouse of the Tzar Boris III Boulevard, as well as a green area with some mineral water facilities – west of the Valentine Andreev street. The project is expected to be achieved within a 12 month period. Sofia municipality will apply for a loan before EU Structural Funds, in order to finance the project. |
