Parking Fees to Be Paid by Text Message in Sofia

A system like this one is initiated in 90% of the countries in Europe. The system was voted by the municipal councilors. Now the parking in the capital can be paid by text message or voice mail. The research is already made and there will be a 72-hours experiment. The deputy mayor Velizar Stoilov expects the system to start working at the beginning of next month. He was explicit that the parking rates in the Blue Zone of Sofia will remain 1 lev/h (VAT included). Thus, whenever they leave they vehicle in a Blue Zone, they will only send a short message with the name of the parking lot and the number of the place at which they have parked their car. The now laminated parking cards for disabled people and office cars will be replaced by pre-paid electronic ones. It is expected that this proposals will be written in the new Transport Ordinance, which should be passed by the Sofia City Parliament by the end of the year. The deputy mayor said that at this moment there are several private underground parkings being built in the capital. A garage like these ones costs about 15-20 million Euros.Digital cards will be made for those people living in the center of the capital so that they will be able to park in front of their homes. 60 levs is the suggested price for these cards.Source: Sega newspaper
