A Third bridge between Bulgaria and Romania to be constructed in 2008

The agreement for the construction of a third bridge above Danube River is expected to be sign between Bulgaria and Romania in 2008. That was announced by the Bulgaria’s Transport and Communications Minister Petar Moutafchiev. The new bridge is planned to connect the Bulgaria’s port of Oryahovo with the Romania’s city of Bechet. The future facility will be about 800m long and will feature a road only. The exact place where the bridge will be built will be established next year, when Bulgarian and Romanian expert groups will go and select it. Both countries had already discussed officially Oryahovo-Bechet Bridge three times, Minister Moutafchev said.Bulgaria is currently waiting for official offer from Romania for the agreement signing, the negotiations will follow after that.It is expected the building works to begin in September 2007 and to finish by the end of the year.  There is only one currently working bridge between the two countries, connected the Bulgaria’s city of Rousse with the Romanian Giurgiu. The construction of the second bridge between the Bulgarian Vidin and Romania’s Calafat is running at the moment. Both bridges have railways and roads.
