Bulgarian Black Sea coast awarded with 11 Blue Flags

10 Bulgarian beaches and one marina received the Blue Flag award, which indicates clean and high-quality facilities.The International Blue Flag Jury had its annual meeting on the 27 April, 2007 to decide on Blue Flag candidates from Europe, Morocco and Canada.  As a result 2628 beaches and 629 marinas in 31 countries in the Northern Hemisphere received the International Blue Flag award. For a first time one marina in Russia, one marina in Bulgaria and one in Lithuania received the Blue Flag award. For Russia this was the first Blue Flag in the country at all.  The selected Blue Flag marina candidates are evaluated in details to ensure compliance with the criteria concerning the recyclable waste facilities in the marina, the presence of a map indicating all required facilities, lifesaving equipment in the marina and the posting of safety precautions in the marina.The total numbers of the criteria for the marina candidates are 23.Bulgarian beaches receive the prestigious award since 1995. The first Bulgarian beach which received the Blue Flag award is Sunny Beach. The Bulgarian marina which received the Blue Flag award for this year is a private marina, situated on the picturesque Bulgarian sought coast, near the town of Nessebar, between the famous resorts of Sunny Beach and Elenite.  It is a newly opened marina which was designed and constructed in compliance with all the up-to-date requirements for such ports and provides the adequate facilities and services.The award of a Blue Flag beach is based on compliance with 29 criteria. All the required measures for both beaches and marinas are specified in four main groups:1) Environmental Education and Information2) Water quality3) Environmental Management4) Safety and ServicesThe Bulgarian beaches which cover all the requirements for receiving a Blue Flag award are as follows:1) Albena Beach – located in Balchik municipality;2) Golden Sands Beach – located in Varna municipality;3) Riviera Beach – located in Varna municipality;4) Sunny Day Beach – located in Varna municipality;5) Duni Beach – located in Sozopol municipality;6) Elenite Beach – located in Nessebar municipality;7) Pomorie North Beach – located in Pomorie municipality;8) Sozopol Beach – located in Sozopol municipality;9) Sunny Beach – located in Nessebar municipality;10) Venid Beach – Saint Vlas – located in Nessebar municipality.All Blue Flags are awarded only for one season period of time.
