About 2000 km of roads to be re-constructed in Bulgaria in 2007

Almost 2000 km of roads in Bulgaria will be repaired in 2007, Regional Development and Public Works Minister Assen Gagauzov said. He also announced that in 2006, 1600 km of roads were re-constructed. By the end of 2009 Bulgaria is planning to spend about 5, 5 billion euro on road infrastructure project, according to the strategy document, adopted by the country’s cabinet on the 14th of March, 2007.The main problem of the infrastructure project is the completion of the Hemus highway, which will connect Sofia with the port of Varna on the Black Sea. A new motorway which will run along the Black Sea coast between the port of Varna and Burgas is also part of the major project. The total length of the Bulgaria’s road infrastructure is 40000km and about 20000 km are motor roads. |
