The beauty of the Bulgaria’s Pirin National Park featured in a new coin

A new coin, devoted to the beauty of the Bulgaria’s Pirin National Park starts circulating on April 12, 2007. Pirin National Park is one of the landmarks, registered in the World Heritage list of UNESCO. This will be the second illustrious coin, issued by the central bank in honour of Bulgaria’s  national parks and reserves.  The diameter of the coin will be 38.61mm and it will weight 23.33g. The central bank will issue 600 copies of the coin, which nominal will value of BGN 10.Endangered species and edelweiss – the symbol of Pirin – will be pictured on the backside of the coins.      Pirin National Park is situated in the most beautiful part of Pirin Mountain and covers area of about 40332.4ha.  It was proclaimed as a National park in 1962.Typical for Pirin Mountain and the park are the alpine type glacier forms.At the foot of the peaks in the park, there are more than 180 circus lakes. The flora and fauna of the park are of great value. In the Red book of Bulgaria are included 113 species, 42 of which are protected by the law.
