The bridge will connect the Bulgarian Danube port of Vidin with the Romanian city of Calafat by road and rail. The second Danube Bridge is planned to be a main part of the European transport corridor from the German city of Dresden to the city of Istanbul in Turkey. The new facility will be 1971m long, with two lanes road in both directions and one railway track. The project will cost about 236 million euro. The biggest part of the finances is provided by the ISPA programmes of the EU, the European Investment Bank and some other international financial institutions. The rest of the needed amount will be secured by state input.Bulgaria and Romania signed the project for building the Danube Bridge II even in 2000, but different reasons had prevented the start of the project during the years. At present the bridge which connects Bulgaria and Romania is between the towns of Ruse and Giurgiu and it is the only one above the 610km long Danube boarder.
